All his fellow physicians in town attended him,... Read More	Coon Rapids Enterprise November 28, 1913 Dr. T. H. Unger died yesterday morning at the close of several weeks intense suffering. His last days were made fairly restful by the free use of opiates but the suffering from cancer is very painful at its best and in the last stage the sufferer gets but little rest. The doctor failed rapidly from the time it was discovered that he was afflicted with the low some disease and during the past few days it was known that he could not last long. All his fellow physicians in town attended him, giving him every possible attention. His relatives and friends were constantly with him, relieving him as much as possible and the doctor was patient and resigned and passed away peacefully. Dr. Unger, Veterinary surgeon, came to Coon Rapids 16 years ago, almost fresh from college. The field for his profession was undeveloped. Livestock was not then cared for as now in their ailments and Dr. Unger had to work up a practice and convince the public that is Services were needful and valuable. Gradually the public came to have faith in his skill and his practice grew until the past few years he had all that he could attend to, and more driving than he should have done, for at times he was "on the go" day and night, and the wonder was that he could stand up under the strain. He made himself a valuable man in the community. He was of an active nature and serve several terms as town councilman, being a member of that body at his death. He was naturally a leader, and like to see improvements made and much of the material progress of the town was due to his energy and ambition. He was honest and tireless. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge which will greatly miss him. Thomas Howard Unger was born in Pennsylvania in 1860; came to Iowa 1880. Was married to Miss Fannie Blake in Cherokee County in 1888 and moved to Coon Rapids in 1897. Two children were born to them, Marian and Esther, who, with the mother and other relatives are left to mourn his death. The funeral will occur Saturday afternoon at 2 in the Christian church.
