Ward Liscomb Hoaglin was born in Pleasant Valley, Joe Davis Co., Ill., April 12th, 1856 and departed this life in Kansas City, June lOth, 1909, age 53 years, 2 months. He was buried in the Holton cemetery June 14th. He came to Jackson county, Kan., when an infant with his parents, Ward Sherman and Virginia Hoaglin, both of them having passed to their reward - the mother when he was fifteen years old and the father three years ago. His school days were spent in Holton; then he became one of Jackson county's teachers and afterward took up the study of medicine and was graduated of the Hamerman Medical College of Chicago. He followed his chosen profession twenty- eight years. Twenty-five years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Clara Eddy, a teacher in the Holton schools. To this union were born two daughters, Ethel Ruth and Cecil Claire and one son, Paul Ward, all living. Besides these he leaves a wife, four sisters and two brothers to mourn his loss.
