| Description | : | The son of Richard and Mary Mitchell of King and Queen County. He married Miss Mary Fannie Allen of King William County. He was survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Terry; and three sons, J. T.; C. R.; and R. A. Mitchell. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 and served in Company H with Captain Pollard's Mattaponi Guards in the Fifty-third Regiment. He was taken prisoner at Suffolk, Virginia and carried to Point Lookout, Maryland. He escaped and rejoined the army and served until Lee surrendered at Appomattox.
