Flinn died at the home of his mother, in Holton, last Thursday at l a. m. He was operated upon a year or two ago for gall stones after he had been in ill health was better, but for several months there has been but little of any hope for his recovery and his death was expected daily for two or three weeks. Dr. Flinn has been practicing medicine at Blaine for many years and has been very successful. He was coroner of Pottawatomie county for two terms and made a good official. The Westmoreland Recorder, August 8, 1907: Westmoreland, Kansas Obituary of Dr. W. J. Flinn. The death of Dr. W. J. Flinn was mentioned last week. He died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Jeru Flinn in Holton, Thursday, August 1, 1907. Death resulted from cancer of the liver. He was operated upon five years ago for gall stones and his health had not been good for sometime. For months, he had been al most hopelessly sick of cancer of the liver and all that medical skill and good nursing could do was done for him. His wife and mother were with him during his last illness. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church in Holton, Sunday, at 2 p.m. Rev. May preached the funeral sermon. The text, Revelations 21:4, was selected by Dr. Flinn himself and reads: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Rev. A.J. Sweany assisted in the service by reading the 90th Psalm and offered prayer. The body was buried in the Holton cemetery beside that of his father. Dr. Wilson J. Flinn was born in Republic, Seneca County, Ohio, and February 3, 1862. When nine years of age, he moved with his parents to near Circleville, Kansas. He graduated from the Holton High School and Campbell College, Holton; He studied medicine under Dr. Scott McCandless of Holton and graduated at the Northwestern Medical College of Chicago. Afterwards, he took a course in Mercy hospital of Chicago and received a special diploma in surgery. He located in Blaine in 1902 and practiced there until his last sickness. He was very successful and was popular both as a physician and as a citizen. Dr. Flinn became a member of the Presbyterian church when twenty-one years of age and carried his religion into his work. He was a kind husband and father and his death is a real loss to the community and Pottawatomie County. He was county coroner for two terms and made an excellent official. Dr. Flinn married Miss Nellie Burnbridge, October 17, 1884. To them were born and are still living six children: Louise, Diaz, Mary, Theodore, Royal and Merrill. Mrs. Dr. Flinn and children and the Doctor's mother have the sympathy of all in their sore affliction.
