Description	:	U.S. NAVY Duane Arnold Dollen, 53, son of Harold and Gloria Dollen was born June 7, 1933 at Persia. He lived there for two years, when his parents moved to Harlan. In the fall of 1951, he joined the Navy, serving... Read More	U.S. NAVY Duane Arnold Dollen, 53, son of Harold and Gloria Dollen was born June 7, 1933 at Persia. He lived there for two years, when his parents moved to Harlan. He was baptized at the Harlan Methodist church on Palm Sunday, 1940. In 1943, the family moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles south of Persia. He attended grade school at Yorkshire and graduated from Persia high school with the class of 1951. He was confirmed and became a member of St. John's Lutheran church. In the fall of 1951, he joined the Navy, serving his country for two years. After returning home, he farmed with his dad and was an employee of the ASC office in Logan. On Aug. 6, 1958, he married Jackie Benedickt. They moved to their present location, near his parent’s farm, the following year. Four daughters and two sons were born to this union. He died at his home April 8, 1987 at age 53 years, 10 months and one day. He enjoyed being a part of the Persia community and was president of the Thursday night bowling league in Minden. He was vice chairman and assistant contracting officer of the Mosquito Harrison County Watershed; vice chairman of the Soil District commissioner’s board of Harrison County and vice chairman of the Castana Experimental farm board at the time of his death. He was an active member of the American Legion Swanger Post No. 314. He was an agent and claims adjuster for Farmer's Mutual Hail Insurance Co., the past five years. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughters, Jonette (Mrs. Jim) Fischer of Minden; Lynette Dollen of Omaha; Paulette (Mrs. Duane) Barrier of Co. Bluffs and Danette (Mrs. Patrick) Lodes of Co. Bluffs and sons, Scott and Steven of Persia; and five grandchildren; his mother, Gloria Dollen of Garden City, KS.; and two sisters, Elaine Nelson of Garden City, KS. and Sharon Howard of Atlantic; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held April 11, 1987 at St. John's Lutheran church in Persia with Pastor David Bergstrom, Pastor Wendell Berggren and Fr. Larry Beeson, officiating. Jim Stamp, Walt Wear, Red Kahler, Dick Dollen, William W. Darrington Jr. and Bob Hoffman were honorary bearers and serving as casket bearers were Jim Wilson, John Stamp; Jack Stamp, LeRoy Grote, Leo Kenealy and Fred Meier. Burial was in Valley View cemetery, Persia. Schumacher Funeral Home in Persia were in charge of arrangements. Harlan , Iowa Tribune, Wednesday May 13, 1987, pg 10-A
