Description	:	Duard Harold Burnette, 81, passed away at his home, 1027 Glendale Road in Galax on Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, surrounded his loving family after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel Russell Burnette; and two daughters, Linda K. Burnette of Galax and Jane Burnette Calhoun and her husband, Tommy, of Sparta, N.C.; two grandsons, Bobby and Ben Calhoun; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Gladys Burnette, Dallas and Wanda Burnette, all of Galax; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Don Bond of Galax, Lucille McCoy and Eurlene and Bobby Beal, all of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Burlene Burnette and Wanda Wilson of Galax; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elmer and Emma Lundy Burnette, as well as two brothers, Willard and Eugene Burnette; and one sister, Freda Burnette. Duard served in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Galax Fire Department for 58 years and was its oldest member. He was a member of First Christian Church for nearly 60 years. He was well known in the community as former owner of the Dairy Bar, a milk and beef cattle farmer and as a custom upholsterer. A funeral was held Monday at First Christian Church with burial in the Gladeville Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial gifts may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Galax Fire Department.
