Buchanan was born September 28, 1926, in Yankton, South Dakota to Herbert and Ethel (Dunham) Huber. She grew up on the farm near Mission Hill, where she learned her work ethics. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1944 and after graduation attended school in Sioux City to learn bookkeeping. After finishing school in Sioux City, Dureen moved back to Yankton where she worked at Loon Lumber Yard in Yankton as a bookkeeper. She married Lyle Buchanan on November 9, 1947, in Yankton and together had two children; Randall in 1956 and Russell in 1965. Lyle convinced Dureen to go into farming, first near Mission Hill, then Irene, until buying the family farm in 1961 in rural Irene. Dureen not only raised her family but also helped on the farm working long hours raising hogs and doing field work. She was finally able to slow down when they moved to Yankton in 1992. Dureen was very proud of her title of Grandma. She loved taking care of her grandkids whenever she could and would always make sure they had lots of cookies to eat when they visited. Her favorite saying was, "At Grandma's house, only Grandma's rules applied." When she wasn't spoiling her grandkids, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, baking, the Minnesota Twins, and doing bookwork. She was a member of the WECLA and was a Luther League Advisor with Lyle. Dureen cherished her friends and was always willing to help anyone who needed her. She always put her duties before herself, taking care of her son, Randall, while he fought lung cancer, even when she, herself was ill. Survivors include her son, Russell (Susan) Buchanan of Irene; three grandchildren: Dillon, Tessa, and William; brother, Bernal Huber of Yankton; sister, Thelma (Don) VanEpps of Yankton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle on February 23, 2013; son, Randall; brother, Lloyd; and sister-in-law, Pearl Huber. Obituary & Photo is from The Wintz & Ray Funeral Home
