The son of Lewis and Minnie (Smith) Geer, he was born on June 6, 1925, in Little Cooley, Pa. As a young man, Durward moved to the Ashtabula area to seek employment and remained an Ashtabula resident. Geer Friday, March 27, 2015 ASHTABULA — Durward Orn Geer, age 89, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Ashtabula County Medical Center. The son of Lewis and Minnie (Smith) Geer, he was born on June 6, 1925, in Little Cooley, Pa. As a young man, Durward moved to the Ashtabula area to seek employment and remained an Ashtabula resident. On March 12, 1960, Durward and Doris Inman were united in marriage and celebrated fifty-one years of love and memories prior to her death on May 23, 2011. Durward was employed with Koski Construction for twenty-six years. He enjoyed the friendships he made and remained in touch with his fellow employees after retirement. Durward was a renaissance man; he could garden, hunt and fish, as well as refinish wood and make intricate pieces of jewelry. Durward enjoyed helping people with projects. He built his first home in Little Cooley from the floor up. It was a comfortable and sturdy home for his family. Durward enjoyed making jewelry and giving it as gifts to his friends and family. His gifts are now treasures of the heart. Durward will be remembered for his work ethic, his joy of the outdoors and his love for his family. Durward is survived by his children: son, David Geer of Ashtabula; daughter, Diane (Jon) Leonhardt of West Chester; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchidren. Durward was preceded in death by his son, Durward Arthur Geer; his beloved wife, Doris Inman Geer; his siblings; and his parents. Funeral Services will be held 7 p.m. Today, March 27th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Timothy Kraus, Minister of Conneaut Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 28th, in the Mausoleum Chapel. Calling Hours will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m., Today, March 27th, at the Funeral Home. If desired, contributions can be made to the Conneaut Church of Christ or to the American Cancer Society.
