Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. David Andreae officiating. The son of Charles and Mabel (Istad) Tweet, Durwin was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Pleasant Township of Winneshiek County. He was baptized in his parent's home by the Rev. T.O. Tolo of Big Canoe Lutheran Church March 2, 1926. His sponsors were Thomas and Tina Otteson, Arthur Juve and Melba Blegen. He was confirmed in his faith June 18. 1939, also under the guidance of the Rev. Tolo. Durwin attended Satire School and Decorah High School. graduating in 1945. He served in the United States Air Force from 1943-46 and in the Air Force Reserves from 1946-49. After his time in the service, followed by Electronic School in Omaha. Neb., Bud moved to Seattle, Wash, where he worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. for five years. There he met and married Penny Clark. After returning to Decorah, Bud was the deputy county treasurer for over two years and then moved to Decorah State Bank, where he remained for the next 36 years, retiring in 1990. He later was called to help at Upper Explorerland in Postville, where he worked for over two years. He also served on the Civil Service Board for many years. Bud was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church, the V.F.W., the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. He was treasurer for a number of nonprofit organizations in Decorah, and considered an active and well-loved member of the community. Survivors include his wife, Penny of Decorah; two daughters, Karen and Robert laccarino of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Diane Tweet of Bonita Springs, Fla.; one son, David Tweet of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren: Gabriel and Will laccarino, and Zoe Grace Tweet; one brother, Elwood and Mayelene Tweet of Duncanville, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bud Tweet was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herman Tweet; and sisters Mildred Broderick and Virgil Unertl. Decorah Journal, Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999.
