Description	:	DuWayne E. Steege, 78, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Denver, Iowa, died on Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly of natural causes. DuWayne Everett Steege was born on January 7, 1926, in Denver, Iowa, the son of Herman and Hulda (Heidemann) Steege. DuWayne was baptized and confirmed as a child at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Denver. The family made their home in Denver, where DuWayne attended school through the 12th grade. Steege, 78, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Denver, Iowa, died on Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly of natural causes. DuWayne Everett Steege was born on January 7, 1926, in Denver, Iowa, the son of Herman and Hulda (Heidemann) Steege. DuWayne was baptized and confirmed as a child at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Denver. The family made their home in Denver, where DuWayne attended school through the 12th grade. On February 3, 1944, DuWayne enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in WW II. He was honorably discharged on May 9, 1946. He then returned to Denver and began working for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, where he met his future wife, Delores. On October 19, 1947, DuWayne married Delores M. Happel at St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly. The couple made their home in Denver until moving to the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in 1994. DuWayne is survived by his wife, Delores, of Waverly; four sons and their spouses, Craig and Ann Steege of Crystal Lake, Illinois, David and Deb Steege of State Center, Iowa, Dan Steege of Waverly, Iowa, and Mike Steege of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Kim (Rick) Shannon of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jenna Steege, Eden Steege, Tammy (Steve) Halverson, Erika (James) Beck, and Scott Shannon; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, LeRoy Steege. Funeral services at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Denver. Burial in Fairview Cemetery in Denver. Memorials may be directed to the Church or Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver.
