He was born February 7, 1914, at Powersville, Missouri, the son of Charles W. and Eva Edna Greer Calef. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1932. On January 20, 1935, Dwight was united in marriage to Velma Merethia Timmons at University Park, Iowa, and she died October 12, 2005. Early in his adult life, he worked at McCurdy Seed in Fremont, Iowa. From 1949 until retiring in 1977, he operated Calef Moving Company in Oskaloosa, with his wife as a valued partner. They sold the family business in 1977 and enjoyed retirement together. Dwight was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. Family was of utmost importance to him, and he enjoyed doing arts and crafts alongside his wife. His family includes a daughter, Tamie Jean Calef of Des Moines, Iowa; a grand dog, Honey Bear; two sisters, Victoria Barton of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Opal Harrison of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Jean Calef of Hubbard, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Dwight was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James H. and Marshall Calef. Funeral services for Dwight Calef will be held Saturday, November 5, 2005, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with the Reverend Ralph Sprunk officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Friday after 11 a.m., and the family will be present Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until service time to greet friends and relatives.
