Edward Earl (Pete) Mattoon was born April 25, 1915 in Villisca, Iowa to Theodore and Amy (McCarty) Mattoon and died October 2, 2001 in Camarillo, California. He was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCarty of Villisca. He was united in marriage to Hallene Darlin Hollis in 1936. Edward Earl (Pete) Mattoon was born April 25, 1915 in Villisca, Iowa to Theodore and Amy (McCarty) Mattoon and died October 2, 2001 in Camarillo, California. He was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCarty of Villisca. He was united in marriage to Hallene Darlin Hollis in 1936. He was drafted into the army and served two years and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal and three bronze stars, two overseas service bars and WW 2 Victory medal. He was a rifle sharpshooter. He also served as a railroad section foreman on general Mark Clark’s train. He also worked on th eC.B. & Q. Railroad for 40 years and retired in 1974. He was a life member of VGW Post 4257, and was league champion bowler. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Sonny Mattoon. Survivors include his wife, son Gerald and wife Dawn. Grandchildren, Starr, Cathy, Kelli, Michelle, and Mark Edward Hollis. Also nieces, Joan Barquist, Florence Scott, Helen Cianciola, all of Omaha, Nebraska and Jerry Mattson of Clearfield, Iowa.
