He was born June 12, 1919, in Erie, Kansas, the son of Earl and Leona (Mathis) Clemans Sr. He grew up near Odense, Kansas, and graduated from Erie High School in 1937. Read More	************************ Published Jan. 8, 2009 - Iola, KS Earl Raymond Clemans, Jr., 89, Colony, Kansas, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Allen County Hospital, Iola, Kansas. He was born June 12, 1919, in Erie, Kansas, the son of Earl and Leona (Mathis) Clemans Sr. He grew up near Odense, Kansas, and graduated from Erie High School in 1937. He attended Chanute Trade School from 1937 to 1939 and then was graduated from Pittsburg Teacher's College in 1942. On May 17, 1942, he married Mary Best at the home of her parents south of McCune, Kansas. They moved to Colony in August of that year where they lived for 66 years. He taught science, history, shop and driver's education and coached basketball at Colony High School for 39 years. He retired in 1981. His students were and still are a part of his family. He liked cats and enjoyed going to his parents' farm north of Shaw, KS, where he cut wood, camped and fished. He coached pee-wee and little league baseball and played men's softball. He rode motorcycles and was a stock car mechanic for Kenny Kinzle and Glen Henderson. He was an active member of Colony Community Church and served on the church board for years. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dwight and wife, Edie, Waskom, TX, Marvin and wife, Wanda, Wichita, KS, and Arvin and wife, Kathryn, Iola, KS; a daughter, Bonnie Sjogren and husband, Charles, Concordia, KS; a brother, Julius and wife, Janice, Johnson City, TN; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Colony Community Church. The Rev. Steve Bubna will officiate. Interment will be in Colony Cemetery, Colony, Kansas. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola, KS is in charge of arrangements. Memorials to Colony Community Church may be left at the funeral home. *****************************
