Description	:	Earl Richard Cross, Sr., age 76, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard. Funeral Services will be 11am, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Howard with burial in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, 2pm, Monday, November 19, 2012. Earl Richard Cross, Sr., was born September 11, 1936 on a farmstead north of Artesian, in Sanborn County, South Dakota to Lee and Lydia (Breuer) Cross. Earl grew in the area attending country school until the eighth grade. He then worked on the family farm until entering the United States Army on January 5, 1956 and was Honorably Discharged on May 10, 1956. Earl was united in marriage to Darlene Jans on February 6, 1958 at Pipestone, Minnesota. The couple lived in Lake Preston, Oldham, Madison and in January of 1967 moved to Howard where he worked for Clarke & Sons until 1969. Earl then managed the Texaco Station on Main Street for about two years before he started his own repair shop called Earls Repair, at his residence in Howard. Earl semi-retired in 1998 and began working for his wife at the repair shop, know called Westside Repair, until he became too ill. Earl was noted for helping others in the area. He was a very family-oriented man, who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Those grateful for having shared a part of his life include his wife Darlene of Howard; two sons: Earl Cross Jr. and David Cross both of Howard; three daughters: Donna (Dean) Deinert of Mt. Vernon, SD; Susie (Jack) Ozburn of Cashmere, WA; Linda (Dave) Jensen of De Smet, SD; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Cross of Lucerne Valley, CA; two sisters, Louise Rakestraw of Rudy, AR and Ida Irvin of Gillette, WY. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Scottie Schmidt.
