Mr. Wells was born in Ireton on October 11, 1889 and grew up in this vicinity, living here all of his life with exception of time spent in the U.S. Army during World War I. At the close of his Army service he was united in marriage with Miss Sylvia Rookstool of Springfield, Mo., and the couple came to Ireton to make their home. He was in the Mercantile business and for thirty years operated a grocery and general store business here retiring from that work 24 months ago. One year and half ago he accepted work as custodian in the Ireton Public school. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Eugene of Sioux City and Keith at home; and one daughter, Mrs. (Earline) Vernon Amundson of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. There also survive eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Oakland, Calif., and one brother, Clark Wells of Coolidge Ariz. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Tom Moore King in charge. Floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Edward Kading and Mrs. Adolf Twillman. The male quartette composed of Ronald Gibbons, Lloyd Simmons,Charles Houlton and Marlin Eilts sang several favorite numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Bartlett. The remains were buried in the family lot in the Pleasant Hill cemetery with military honors presented by Bertram Post American Legion of which the deceased was a member. Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Milton Wells of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wells of Lake Benton, Minn., Mr.and Mrs. Eugene Wells of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Amundson and four children of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., W.H. Rookstool of Springfield, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Wells of Sioux city. Pastors note: Earl Sherman Wells was the son of Mattie O.
