Ely, son of Milton and Emma Connor Ely, was born on February 26, 1900 near Lushton, NE. He departed this life at York General Hospital, February 2, 1981, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 2 days. Earl grew to manhood and received his education in the Grafton community. He was united in marriage to Ora Mae Schinzel, September 29, 1924 at the home of her parents. To this union was born 1 daughter and 2 sons. The Elys moved to Sutton in 1955 and remained there until the time of Earl's passing. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers - Roy, Elmer, Milton, Glen; and 4 sisters - Ethel, Mabel, Stella and Myrtle. Left to mourn his passing are one daughter, Verta Ulmer and husband Herman of Sutton; son Earl, Jr., and wife Norma of Grafton; and son George and wife Mary of Omaha; one brother, Floyd of Geneva; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 4, at 2 o'clock at the Federated Church with Rev. Bob Browne officiating. Shirley Syring and Donna Bauer sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art," accompanied by Betty Barbee. Pallbearers were George Thompson, Dean Stuckey, Cleo Stevens, Earl Hultman, Waldo Schinzel, and Ernest Kleinschmidt. Burial was in the Sutton Cemetery, with Kohler Mortuary in charge.
