He was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Surry County to John William and Ida Rosella Brinkley Gilley. Read More	PILOT MOUNTAIN, NC ~ Mr. Earlie Gaston Gilley Sr., 83, of Cook School Road, Pilot Mountain, crossed over into his beloved "Beulahland" on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at his home. He was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Surry County to John William and Ida Rosella Brinkley Gilley. Along with his brother, Wade, Mr. Gilley was co-owner and operator of Gilley's Automotive and Supply Co. for more than 60 years. Mr. Gilley served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of operations, serving in the 545th Ordinance, arriving in Europe aboard the Queen Elizabeth and in conjunction with the Normandy Invasion. He landed in France at Utah Beach and later at Omaha Beach. He was a charter member and served as president of the South Westfield Ruritan Club, and was a member of the N.C. Polled Hereford Association. Mr. Gilley was retired from the Surry Telephone Membership Corp., where he served as president, vice-president and a director of the board and for a period of time as interim manager to the cooperative. His service was recognized as a great contribution to the development and success of Surry Telephone Membership Corp. and its providing of telephone services to rural Stokes and Surry Counties. Mr. Gilley was a faithful member of Jessup Grove Baptist Church, serving various positions in the church, and had served as chairman of the Board of Deacons since 1982. Mr. Gilley was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mozell Gilley; and three brothers, Rex Gilley, Ray Gilley and Cecil Gilley. Surviving are his wife of 60 years,: Lorraine Beasley Gilley of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Keith Jessup, of Pilot Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Earlie Jr. and Tammy Gilley, of Pilot Mountain; and four grandchildren, Bobby Jessup, Andy Jessup and wife Amy, Elizabeth G. Eads and Will Eads and Earlie G. Gilley III and fiancee Ashley Crouch; and two great-grandchildren, Meredith and Alexandria Jessup. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 Friday afternoon, Sept. 22, at Jessup Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roger Vaden and Mr. Will Eads officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain and Post 2019 of Mount Airy. Mr. Gilley will be taken to Jessup Grove Baptist Church at 6 this evening, Sept. 21, and will remain there until the hour of the funeral services. The family will receive friends at Jessup Grove Baptist Church from 6:30 to 9 this evening, Sept. 21, and at other times at the Gilley home on Cook School Road.
