He was unable to be actively engaged in outdoor work for the past five years, being a sufferer from varicose veins, but was confined to his bed only eleven days previous to his death with the flu. Read More	Akron Register Tribune 1-28-1926 OBITUARY Eden Hummel, a well known resident of Plymouth county, died at his home in Westfleld, Iowa, Monday, January 18,1926, age 77 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was unable to be actively engaged in outdoor work for the past five years, being a sufferer from varicose veins, but was confined to his bed only eleven days previous to his death with the flu. On Sunday he was taken worse and despite all that loving care and medical skill could accomplish, the final summons came on Monday noon. Eden Hummel was born July 28,1848, in Fayette county, Iowa where he lived until eight years old, moving to Fremont county , Iowa. He served in the Civil War with Company I, Forty third Missouri Infantry. He volunteered on the 3rd day of august 1864, and was discharged on the 30th day of June, 1865. He later moved to Union county, Dakota Territory, which is now South Dakota, where he was united in marriage to Amanda E. McWilliams on the 18th of September, 1870. To this union were born 10 children, five boys and five girls all of whom are living. They lived in Union county for twenty five years, during which time he was engaged in running a sawmill and also farming. In the spring of 1895 he moved with his family to Iowa and has lived in Plymouth for the last thirty one years. Fourteen years ago this coming spring he quit farming and moved to Westfield, where he lived up to the time of his death. He leaves behind to mourn his loss his widow, Amanda E. Hummel, and children, J.W., Eva, C.A., T.M., Geo. E., Mrs. Mont Campbell, and Mrs. Guy Morehead, all living in the vicinity of Westfield, F.A. of Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. J. H. Johnson and Mrs. R.A. Tuttle, both of Hill City, Minn; also thirty-seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two half-sisters, Mrs. Allie Jones, of Washington, Kansas and Mrs. Ida Thompson, of Winfield, Kansas, and one half-brother, John Hummel, of Mayfield, Wash., as well as a host of friends and acquaintances of many years. Rev. Brown of Elk Point, had charge of the services, which were held last Thursday at 1:30 P.M. at the Westfield church. Mr. Hummel was a charter member of the Masonic lodge at Elk Point, which had charge of the burial service. Interment was in the Westfield Cemetery. Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were his two half sisters from Kansas and his sister-in-law, Mrs. John Cowell and sons, Frank and Johnnie, from Geddes, S.D. ---------------------------- Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, January 29, 1926 Eden Hummel was born July 28, 1848, in Fayette county. Iowa, where he lived during his early manhood. He later moved to Union county, South Dakota, where he was united in marriage with Miss Amanda McWilliams on September 18, 187? (unreadable). Mr. Hummel lived in Union county, South Dakota for twenty-five year, moving to the vicinity of Westfield about 1895. Some years later he moved to the town of Westfield where he resided until his death. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and five sons and five daughters, nearly all of whom live in the vicinity of Westfield with the exception of two daughters who live in Minnesota.
