Read More	NICHOLS, EDGAR HOWARD HOWARD—Howard Nichols, a partner in the Geneva contracting firm of Nichols Construction Co., passed away unexpectedly at his home August 16, 1967, at the age of 59 years 7 months and 1 day. He had undergone surgery several months ago, but apparently was making a good recovery, being able to be at his office part time. Mr. Nichols was born near Fairmont, Neb., January 15, 1908, a son of Edgar and Lillie Nichols. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Fairmont high school. He united with the Methodist church as a child and was a faithful member and attendant until his death. He served a number of years as an usher at the Geneva church. Howard was married to Ruth McCabe of Fairmont, August 24, 1933. They made their home in Geneva, where Howard was employed by his father in the construction business. On the death of his father, Howard became a co-owner of the business, which was called Nichols Bros. Construction Co. He spent practically a lifetime in the business, doing many road construction projects in the state. He had a great many friends in this business. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Edgar Howard Jr. He is survived by his wife Ruth; four sons, Larry and Raymond, both connected with the construction company, and Tom and Dan at home; two daughters Rose, Mrs. Rodger Felix, of Seward and Carol, Mrs. Ronald Kleinschmidt, of Geneva; four brothers, Robert and Maurice of Geneva, Jess of Denver and Elvin of Bradshaw; a sister, Mrs. Helen (Kenneth) Hofferber of Shickley; his mother, Mrs. Lillie Nichols of Geneva, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was a member of the Geneva Masonic lodge, Sesostris Shrine of Lincoln, the Meridian Shrine Club, Elks lodge of York and the Association of General Contractors. A kind and generous husband and father, he had faced his illness with a calm courage. His greatest comfort during his convalescence was his well-loved grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Geneva at 10:30 a. m. Saturday, August 19. The pastor, Rev. K. Orlando Lee, and a former pastor, Rev. Alden B. Sears of Omaha, officiated. Mrs. H. A. Rosenau sang “Beautiful Isle” and “In the Garden.” Honorary pallbearers were Herbert Dondlinger, Lawrence Doud, Robert Fuchs, Ralph Kinder, Howard Miller, Leonard Reinsch, Ray Wilcynski and Clarence Wright. Active pallbearers were John Brooke, Howard Brower, George Cruse, George Koehler, Harold Maier and Leon Walker. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 24 August 1967 page 9.
