Not having been ill beforehand, news of his demise came as a shock to residents of the community. Edgar M. Herrick was born in Warren county, Pennsylvania, January 1, 1854 and died at Creighton, Nebr., January 29, 1934 at the age of 80 years and 28 days. He grew to manhood in Pennsylvania, came west to Nebraska in 1879, locating at York, worked there a year and came to Knox county in 1880. The same year he homesteaded two miles east of Creighton. In December 1884, he was united in marriage to Caroline Raike at Pierce. To them four children, two daughters and two sons were born. The two daughters, Della and Tessie, preceded their parents in death; the two sons, Ralph and Harold, survive. Mrs. Herrick passed away a little more than a year ago, November 13, 1932. Residing here more than 53 years, Mr. Herrick can fittingly be included in the ranks of those who helped build up the community. After disposing of his homestead he remained in the community and finally purchased a farm three miles west and half mile south of town, where his sons still live. Thirteen years ago he and Mrs. Herrick moved to town. Quiet and unassuming, Mr. Herrick was a man who made firm and lasting friendships and earned the esteem of all who knew him. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church. The Rev. R.B. E. Hill, church pastor, officiated. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
