Description	:	PARKER -- Edith Caroline Magers, 81, Parker, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Magers and her husband farmed near Parker many years. She also taught school at Lonely Ridge Country School and at the Parker Grade School during World War II. She worked for the Floyd Coker Family in Osawatomie for more than 20 years before she retired. She graduated from high school in La Cygne... Read More	PARKER -- Edith Caroline Magers, 81, Parker, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Magers and her husband farmed near Parker many years. She also taught school at Lonely Ridge Country School and at the Parker Grade School during World War II. She worked for the Floyd Coker Family in Osawatomie for more than 20 years before she retired. She was born July 11, 1917, at St. James, Mo., the daughter of Norman Everett and Katherine Samuela Cassidy Johnson Sr. She was reared at La Cygne and attended La Cygne schools. She graduated from high school in La Cygne in 1935. She had lived in Osage City since June 1998. Mrs. Magers was a member of La Cygne Christian Church, and she later became a member of the Beagle United Methodist Church and served in several offices on the church board. She taught Sunday school most her life. She also was active in 4-H and had been a community leader, project leader and judge in different counties. She was instrumental in starting the Parker Community Historical Society in 1980 and was a charter member of the society. She married Clarence Allen Magers on June 27, 1937, at La Cygne. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Kenneth Magers, Parker; three daughters, Carolyn Nordling, Osage City, Oneita Miller, Oswego, and Diana Buckley, Chetopa; a sister, Mildred List Wolken, Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Magers was preceded in death by a grandson, Danny Stewart Magers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church at Beagle. Burial will be at Beagle Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beagle United Methodist Church and sent in care of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.
