Description	:	Ethel Ellen, the daughter of Don Carlos Hall and his wife Martha Hall, was born February 27, 1881, at Silver City, Iowa, and departed this life at Nelson, Nebr., September 11, 1947, being 66 years, 6 months and 15 days of age. Read More	Ethel Ellen, the daughter of Don Carlos Hall and his wife Martha Hall, was born February 27, 1881, at Silver City, Iowa, and departed this life at Nelson, Nebr., September 11, 1947, being 66 years, 6 months and 15 days of age. When nine years of age she came with her parents to Spring Ranch, Nebr., and here she grew to young womanhood. On August 21, 1901, she was united in marriage to John M. Pope and for several years they made their home at Daykin, Nebr. They came to Nelson in 1917 and lived here until 1937 when they moved to Auburn, Nebr. In March, 1947, they moved again to Nelson. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pope: Irvin Lester of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Florence Wehrman of Nelson; and Mrs. Virginia Leonard of Hooper, Nebr. There are six grandchildren and all these along with the husband are left to mourn the passing of a loving and devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Pope has one sister living, Mrs. B.L. Allen of Spokane, Wash., and three brothers, Cecil Hall of Portland, Oregon, William Hall of Terrebonne, Oregon, and Vernon Hall of Tacoma, Washington. Mrs. Pope was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Nelson. While they lived at Rulo, Nebr., this sister became a member of the Methodist Church and remained a faithful member of this denomination throughout the rest of her life. From 1917 to 1937 she was a very active member of the Nelson church. She with her husband transferred from here to the Auburn Methodist Church. On last Easter Sunday they were transferred back to the Nelson Methodist Church. It has been said of Jesus, "He loved the Church," and it has also been said of Sister Pope, "She loved the Church, and because she loved Christ and the Church, her home was a Paradise on earth--a home that was filled with the radiance of her beautiful Christian character." Indeed the beautiful tribute paid to a Godly woman in Proverbs 31:27-28, well applies to this fine Christian woman. "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness." Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her. Yea, I am with thee when there falls no shadow Across the golden glory of the day, And I am with thee when when the storm clouds gather, Dimming the brightness of the way; In day of loss and loneliness and sorrow, Of care and weariness and fretting pain, In days of weakness and of deep depression, Of futile efforts when thy life seems vain, When youth has fled and death has put far from three Loved ones and friends who made the journey sweet, When age has come with slowly failing powers, And the dark valley waits thy faltering feet; When courage faints before the unknown future, And the heart sinks beneath its weight of fears-- Still I am with thee, Strength and Rest and Comfort, Thy Counsellor through all earth's changing years. Whatever goes, whatever stays, Lo, I am with thee all they days. -- Annie Johnson Flint The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Methodist church with Rev. Clarence V. Powell in charge, assisted by Mrs. Powell. Music was furnished by a quartett: Bertha Mae Shaw, Mrs. L.F. Sinkey, Ivan Schafer and Lowell Powell, with Mrs. Henry Hite as accompanist. The pallbearers were Guy Bruce, Earl Greenwood, Irvin McCutchan, H.A. Brubaker, Paul Littrell and Homer Wehrman. Interment was in the Nelson cemetery.
