Edith’s father Lemuel Griffin took up a homestead in Jewell County, Kansas in 1871, coming from Illinois. Read More	Edith E. Griffin was born on the family farm in rural Webber, Kansas on July 11, 1882 to Lemuel C. and Emma Jane (Powell) Griffin. Edith’s father Lemuel Griffin took up a homestead in Jewell County, Kansas in 1871, coming from Illinois. Edith’s mother Emma Jane Powell came to the United States from England in 1871 and moved with her father to a farm south of Hardy, Nebraska. Edith’s parents were pioneers in Kansas and Nebraska and the Griffin and Powell families were well known and highly regarded in the area. Edith Griffin attended 11 years of school in Jewell County, Kansas. She married Frank Worden on September 25, 1901 at age 19. Two children were born to this union, one who died in infancy on October 19, 1905 and Wilma Grace Worden on February 22, 1907. Edith and Frank lived on a farm southeast of Superior for a few years. In 1905 they purchased the farm in the valley four miles east where they made their home until both of their deaths. The Worden’s were members of the First United Presbyterian Church of Superior. In June of 1933, Mrs. Frank Worden hosted a dinner party for the 60th wedding anniversary of her parents Lemuel and Emma Griffin. The newspaper article told of a lovely two-course dinner with a table decorated in pink and white with a large wedding cake as a centerpiece. The cake bore the Griffin’s wedding date of June 10, 1873 and June 27, 1933, which announced the upcoming wedding date of Wilma Worden to Ray M. Ely. Edith E. Griffin Worden died on April 11, 1975 in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92. Her funeral services were held on April 14 at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Watson officiating. Organist Glenda Thayer played “Rock of Ages” and Psalm 103 was cited in the funeral program. Casket bearers were: Norman Stenson, Dick Winebar, Richard Meyer, Elmer Meyer, Bill Erickson, and Bonnie Fuller. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
