Edie's Page High School classmates, Nina Bill Wyrick Overmyer '64 and Karen Henderson Vaughn '65 traveled to Hackberry, Arizona to visit Edie over a period of three days. They returned home only hours before Edie was "absent from the body and present with her Lord." Nina Bill '64 wrote: "Edie passed away this afternoon. Karen and I were able to see her Sunday when she was lucid, and we got to visit a bit. Yesterday she slept quite a bit; then, this morning when we stopped on the way home, she was pretty non-responsive. We could tell she knew we were there a couple of times. Norm, her husband has been her guardian angel through all if this, and she almost always acknowledged him when he spoke to her. So very blessed that we got there at a time when she was awake and aware." Karen Vaughn '65 wrote: "My friend and former classmate, Edie Hedges Stickler, passed away at approximately 2:30 this afternoon. Nina Bill and I will miss her lots, too! I know she is in a wonderful place and free from pain at last! She is ready to celebrate Jesus' birthday in heaven. God bless you, Edie. Norm, you are a wonderful husband for Edie. I know you are going to miss her!!" Edie was born on July 16, 1947, to Marvin and M. Laverne (Kues) Hedges in Sterling, Colorado. Raised in Sterling and Grand Junction, Colorado, and Page, Arizona, where she met her late husband, David Ray Proctor '62. While both residents of Page--he was 19; Edie was 16--they were married on February 1, 1964 in Williams, AZ. Witnesses to the marriage were Evelyn L. Hedges (Edie's younger sister) and Frederick Mark "Fred" Augenstein (1935 - 2009) (David's older sister, Etta Mae's, husband). Following their wedding, they lived in Salt Lake City, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada, where her children were later born. They had two children, David Roy, born October 1964 in Las Vegas, NV, a Baptist Pastor today, and Connie Proctor. After David's death, Edie moved to Kingman, Arizona to be near her family. Her passion in life was her family, friends, her dogs and her horses. She was happiest when helping and being with them. Knowing that her time was short, she celebrated Christmas with her family on Dec. 10. Edie was one of the first women to be a long haul over-the-road truck driver in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Later, she earned an EMT certificate and worked in the Tucson Medical Center emergency room. An artistic person, she enjoyed making afghans and sweaters for family and friends. An active member of the Women of the Moose for over 40 years, she held almost all of the elective offices and was awarded the College of Regents Degree. She was preceded in death by her late husband, David Ray Proctor; her mother; M. Laverne Lovestedt (Andrew); her father, Marvin L. Hedges (Edna); her brother, Dennis (Sharon) Hedges and baby brother, Deryl Eugene Hedges; her sisters, Evelyn Hedges Carter and Theresa Hedges (Rick Hummel) Boone. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Norman Stickler, of Hackberry; her son, David Proctor (Lydia) of Glendale; her daughter, Connie R. Proctor (Theresa Hoffman) of Tucson; her granddaughters, Amelia McElroy and Grace Proctor of Glendale; her sisters, Barbara Siler and Peggy Brown (Joe); and her brother, Terry (Ronda) Hedges, all of Kingman; sister, Trudy (Kerry) Hornick of East Canton, Ohio; and brothers Roger Hedges of Oregon and Larry (Christine) Pratt. She was married later on to Norman Stickler, who wrote: My beloved wife, Edie Hedges Stickler, entered eternal life at 2:30 pm today (December 20th) after an 11-month struggle with cancer. Her Yorkie terrier and I were with her when she passed. She will celebrate the birth of her Savior Jesus the Christ in heaven. Fawn Boone-Herzer wrote: My Aunt Edie Hedges Stickler was a funny spitfire with whom I loved sharing life stories and cherished memories. I will miss our calls and hearing tales about my mom from her. Rest with Jesus, Aunt Edie, love you. Joey Servillo-Brown was feeling heartbroken and wrote: My wife, Peggy, and I lost her sister, Edie Hedges Stickler, today. Her battle with cancer finally took its toll as it always does. She was a kick to be around. She made lots of contributions to the turtle sanctuary, with turtles and other ways she always came up with. I'm going to miss her humor and friendship. Till we meet again, rest in peace. As my brother-in-law, Norman Stickler, you became a lot of things to me: a friend, a confidante, a big brother and many other things throughout the years. You and Edie Hedges Stickler have been great company thru all these years. But most of all, you've become family. I love you, my brother. Edie's friend, Candace Patterson wrote: On December 3 at 6:35pm: Enjoying time with Edie Hedges Stickler talking about anything and everything--never a boring moment talking to her ❤️️. She's a doll! On December 20 at 8:30pm: I lost my friend to cancer today; in my head it's hard to believe she is gone as we were just laughing and watching TV together the day before yesterday. She was a beautiful good-hearted person; she was a real friend, and all she ever talked about was what she could do for others and her new grandbaby, and she loved to talk about Jesus and her Bible. Our connection as friends was almost instant the first day I ever had coffee with her on her patio. I can only feel blessed that God brought her into my life, if only for a season; there is always a reason for being in someone's life, and even though it was hard and it hurts, I am glad I got to walk through this with her and her husband. She trusted that if something happened, she would be OK with me, and I did nothing special; I was just there to hold her hand and get her Pepsi and be her friend. Thank you ❤️️💕🙏 Funeral services will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, 425 Spring Street Kingman, Arizona at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, with the Reverend Phillip Shaw as the celebrant of a Requiem Eucharist. The Women of the Moose Memorial Service will be at 2:30 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be in Fleming, Colorado in the family site. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church, the Women of the Moose, or the Lydia Project in care of her husband Norman Stickler, at 8001 Homestead, Hackberry, AZ. 86411.
