Description	:	Edith lived on the family farm and attended Eureka No. 8, a one-room school house for all eight grades. She was an excellent student with a quick mind and graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in Fontanelle, Iowa. Following graduation, Edith went on to "normal training" at the Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following graduation, Edith went on to "normal training" at the Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After teaching all eight grades for a few years, Edith left to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C. During the early years of World War II, while still in Washington, Edith met and married Samuel Olen Channell. Following the war, Edith and Olen settled in Senecaville, where they made their home and raised their children. From 1955 until 1970, Edith was employed by the Guernsey County Schools as a nutritionist, planning menus and serving meals at the school in Senecaville, then at the vocational school in Buffalo. Many former students in the Guernsey County area remember her for the meals she planned and served. Edith was active in the Senecaville United Methodist Church, serving in various offices of the UMW, teaching Sunday school, baking pies to raise funds for ministry and mission, and baking for the sheer enjoyment of serving others. Edith could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. The joy of Edith's life was her family, especially her grandchildren, all of them remember the family get-togethers where the food was abundant and delicious and where skirmishes could sometimes take place over the last piece of pie. Edith was a consummate pie baker, and more than one of her grandchildren would ask for birthday pie rather than cake. Edith would bake both. Education was important to Edith, and she insisted on excellence. She believed that education was the key to a better future. On her 90th birthday, her children honored Edith's passion for academic excellence by establishing the Edith M. Channell Scholarship Award through the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. This scholarship benefits students applying for college who are active in the United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin; her parents, Earl and Vera Eshelman; her brothers, Gene and Albert; and a sister, Karol. She leaves to treasure her memory her five children, Juanita Csontos (Steve), Dale Channell (Gayle), Marilyn Hollar (Ron), Dwayne Channell (Carol Lynne), Wayne Channell (Carol Ann); a brother, Kenneth Eshelman (Mary Alice); her grandchildren, Andrew and Timothy Csontos, Greg and Jeff Channell, Matthew and Michael Hollar, Adam Channell, Deanna Segner, Sarah Chizmar; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Drew Csontos, Reese Channell, Ashley and Emily Segner, Madelynn Pace and Wesley Chizmar.
