Read More	Edith M. “Edie” Brown, 83, of Devils Lake died Wednesday afternoon, November 9, 2016 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Edith Mae Brown was born May 20, 1933, in Devils Lake, ND, to Olaf and Elizabeth (Loudon) Kolden. Edith grew up in the Warwick and Crary area, graduating from Crary High School. Edith was united in marriage to Peter Brown on June 8, 1951 at Crary, ND. Peter and Edith made their home on the farm near Brocket. Edith spent many years on the farm where she was active at United Lutheran Church, heavily involved in youth programs. She helped with the farming and drove school bus. In 1978 the family moved to Underwood, North Dakota where she spent many years in the school system where she worked with special needs children. In 1986 the family made their home in Devils Lake. During that time Edith was employed as a teacher’s assistant for the pre-school/kindergarten at Saint Joseph's Catholic School and retired in 2009. Edith helped numerous kids obtain GEDs. Many went on to join the military. Edith was also employed part time at Kenner Family Dentistry. She spent countless hours volunteering at Our Saviors Lutheran Church decorating for events, quilting, and leading Bible studies. She hosted many birthday parties at Heartland Care Center, and spent several summers refurbishing rooms at Red Willow Bible Camp with her sisters Franny and Ginny. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her grandchildren and kids of all ages. Some of her favorite things in life were Snickers bars, Diet Coke, and having a party. Edith’s legacy she left for her family and friends was the spirit of giving to others, performing random acts of kindness, and always leaving the world a better place than she found it. She had a gift for being able to find the goodness in people. Edith is survived by Peter, her husband of 65 years; daughters Rita (Jack) Volk, Helen (Dale) Carlson all of Devils Lake, Kathy Whitman of Beulah, ND; sons Henry (Joyce) Brown of Dickinson, ND and Robert Brown of Las Vegas, NV; 9 grandchildren Scott (Steph) Volk and Jennifer (Valdez) Gordon, Stefany (Jason) Fee and Jason (Candace) Carlson, Amber Whitman and Rick Whitman, Krista (Josh) Bothum, Andrew (Kennan) Brown and Kelley (Mitch) Hartman and 21 great grandchildren; sister Franny Eidsness of Brocket and brother Bruce (Donna) Kolden of Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Ginny Bowman. Casket Bearers for Edie will be Steven Eidsness, Andrew Brown, Scott Volk, Jason Carlson, Tylor Carlson, Jason Fee, Hunter Fee and Branden Fee. A special tribute by Stefany Fee and music will be provided by Edie’s grandchildren, Jeff and Kathy Lovseth and Jean Aardahl.
