They will be at home in that city after December 24. ========================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, August 28, 1969 Mrs. Edith Sayre Greenwood (nee Kennedy) passed away August 16, 1969 at the Brookwood Nursing Home in Des Plaines, Illinois at the age of 92. For the last 10 years she had made her home with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bus of Park Ridge, Illinois. Mrs. Greenwood came to Nelson with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Kennedy from Zanesville, Ohio as a young girl of 5 years. She was born in Muncie, Indiana April 3, 1877. There was also a sister, Mrs. Frank Spurck Henry, now deceased who also lived in Nelson. Mrs. Greenwoods father opened a Dry Goods Store in the building which was then next to the Old Billy Miles Drug Store, their home site which is now that of the Seven Day Adventist Church which is just across from the old Methodist Church. Mrs. Greenwoods mother was a fine milliner and dress maker. Mrs. Greenwood met and married Geo. F. Greenwood of Nora, Nebraska. Then later they moved to Bruning, Sevanton and Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Greenwood was associated with the Burlington Railroad and was the first Morse Code Operator in the Union Station for the railroad. Later they moved to Chicago, Illinois, then to Oak Park, Illinois. Mr. George F. Greenwood passed away August 13, 1948. His ashes were buried on the Kennedy Lot in the Nelson Cemetary (sic). Later Mrs. Greenwood moved to her daughters home in Park Ridge, Illinois. Surviving her are: Mrs. Chas. Bus (Margaret), Mrs. Frances Henderson of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Harriett B. Dannley (Franklin), Mr. Robert E. Greenwood (Janet), 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mrs. Greenwood's ashes will be buried in the Kennedy family plot at a later date under the supervision of daughters and Albert Klawitter Funeral Director.
