Devore, residing one mile east of Phillips and one of the most prominent residents of western Hamilton county, died suddenly at his home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Devore was sick only a few days and was first taken ill with a cold which was followed quickly by pneumonia. Mr. Devore, who would have been fifty-one years of age the 31st, was a resident near Philllips for thirty years. Besides his wife, he leaves two grown daughters, his mother who is eighty-four years of age, three sisters and four brothers. The sisters and brothers are Mrs. J. W. Miller of Phillips, Mrs. Richard Guendel of this city, Mrs. B. F. Harvey of Phillips and Dan, Neal, William and James Devore of Hamilton county, The deceased was a deacon in the Methodist church of Phillips. The time for the funeral will be announced later. Devore, son of Cornelius and Margaret Devore was born in Warren County, Iowa, March 31st, 1859. In the summer of 1883 he emigrated to Nebraska overland. In the month of August 1887, he returned to Warren county, Iowa where he was united in marriage on the 11th day of the month to Miss Ida Lacy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lacy of this section. Two daughters were born to this union, Mary and Edna. Shortly after his marriage he returned to Hamilton county, Neb., with his wife, spending the three following years on farms owned by J. W. Devore and J. W. Miller. The fourth year of his residence he began improving his farm four miles northeast of Phillips where he resided with his family for nineteen years. He moved in the spring of 1910 to his farm one mile east of Phillips where he resided at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged mother, wife, two daughters, three sisters, four brothers and a large number of friends and acquaintances. The deceased joined the Methodist church... ...The funeral service was conducted at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. E. N. Littrell assisted by Rev. Bradshaw of Alda...After the church service the body was taken to St. Joe cemetery and laid in its final resting place exactly fifty-two years from the day of Mr. Devore's birth...
