Read More	OBITUARY OF EDMOND MUSTARD Edmond Mustard was born in the state of Ohio on October 9, 1843, and died at his home near Silver Creek, Nebraska on June 12, 1929, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 3 days, the greater part of his life having been spent in and near Silver Creek. He has been ailing for the past several years, and for the past seven months had been confined to his bed, suffering a greater part of that time. He grew to manhood in Ohio and Indiana, and in October 1861 he enlisted into the service of his country and served until the expiration of the civil war, a brave, gallant soldier, loyal to his flag and country. He was a volunteer in Company A, 59th Indiana Infantry, and was with Sherman on his march to the sea. In 1872 he came to Nebraska, homesteading near Silver Creek, and remained on the farm until 1901 when he moved to a small acreage property Just at the north edge of Silver Creek where he lived until his death. His wife, Hannah Christina Mustard, preceded him in death, having passed away February 24, 1926. As one of the few surviving members of Ellsworth G. A. R. Post of Silver Creek, comrade Mustard had for many years taken an active part in the organization, and particularly so on Decoration Day, and it was at his request that he be given a military funeral. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Silver Creek at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, and the funeral was very largely attended, his many friends from Silver Creek and surrounding community wishing to pay their last respects to a friend and fellow citizen they had known and whose friendship they had enjoyed for a number of years. Rev. Winker delivered the funeral sermon, after which the W. R. C. of Sliver Creek took charge and gave a splendid exemplification of their ritualistic service for the departed soldier dead. As the casket and body were removed from the church, a squad of ten world war veterans, members of the American Legion at Central City, stood at the bottom of the church stairway and presented arms while the casket was carried by and did likewise at the cemetery when the body was removed from the hearse. Members of the local Boy Scouts, each holding a large flag, stood at attention surrounding the grave, as did also members of the W. R. C. who assisted Rev. Winker in conducting the committal service. The firing squad from Central City fired the salute of three volleys after which the Legion bugler from Central City sounded taps. Surviving, children are Mrs. Ella Criss of St. Edward, Mrs. Nellie Towslee of Omaha, Mrs. Mabel Towslee, Oscar and Mont Mustard of Silver Creek. Brothers and sisters are, Mrs. Ruth Phillips and Mrs. Maggie Cline, Spencer, Indiana, Mrs. Cal. Gillis, South Bend, Indiana, Alec Mustard, North Platte, Nebraska, John and James Mustard of Spencer, Indiana. Pallbearers, all veterans of the World War, were Clyde and Earl Mustard of Clarks, grandsons of the deceased, and John Vitamvas, Charles Youngstrom, Gifford Hutchison and Lloyd Sutton of Silver Creek. Honorary bearers were Mont Bond of Osceola, D. J. Towslee and Joshua Finecy, all civil war veterans, W. J. Lauder, C. Lucas, R. G. Bennett and Lee Graham of Silver Creek. All of the children were present at the funeral, and one brother, Alec Mustard of North Platte, was also present. Edmond Mustard will be missed, not only by his immediate relatives, but by a host of friends. Following his service for his country during the Civil War, he became a citizen of Nebraska at a time when this portion of it was largely prairie, and It was through the effects of such staunch citizens as he that Nebraska has been made one of the foremost states in the union, a permanent monument to their memory.
