Ed was born on September 25, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Joseph and Kathryn Dermody Anderson. He moved to Platte, South Dakota at age 3 and graduated from Platte High School. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1951. He served in the United State Coast Guard from 1952 to 1956. After the Coast Guard he worked with his brother Terry on the family farm west of Platte. He also taught Korean War Veterans agriculture at Geddes Public Schools until he began graduate studies at Montana State University in Bozeman. After completing his graduate studies and three bachelor degrees in Economics, Range Management and Botany, he was employed by Western Cattle Company in Rapid City, South Dakota for 5 years. He then went to work for the First National Bank of Black Hills as a Vice President of Agricultural Loans. In 1961 he married Marilyn Gorman. In 1962, they had twin boys, Tim and Tom. In 1963, they gave birth to Shawn, then David in 1964 and Todd in 1965. Among his many accomplishments he was a 35 year member of International Society of Range Management; President of South Dakota Section RMP; 3 years on the board of International Society of Range Management; 10 years Pennington County District; 33 year member of Rapid City Chamber of Commerce; Western Junior Livestock Executive Board of Directors for 14 years; After retirement he served in International Executive Services Corps spending four month in Slovakia as a financial consultant; Charter member Western South Dakota Buckaroos; Member Custer Trail Riders; 33 year member of South Dakota Bankers Association; 50 year member of Knights of Columbus; Financial Council and Pastoral Council for 10 years at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Rapid City, President of Wilson Elementary School PTA in Rapid City for 3 years. Survivors include wife Marilyn R. Anderson; sons Timothy V. Anderson of Kirkland, Thomas E. Anderson of Maui, Shawn P. Anderson of Sammamish, Dave J. Anderson of Seattle, Todd Anderson of Pittsburg; bother James Terry Anderson of Wagner, SD A funeral mass will be held 11am, Monday, May 6 at St Jude Catholic Church. A reception will follow. A committal will be held 11:30am Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Tahoma National Cemetery. Friends are invited to share memories and sign the family's on-line guest book.
