He passed away after an inspirational journey with numerous medical challenges on November 7, 2017. Recently, Ed celebrated his 86th birthday. Ed, also known as Bub, was the 5th child of 8 of George Darlington Stuart Dobbs and Anna Engle Stafford. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Elaine (nee Ball). His children include Stephen of Voorhees, Meryl (Rudy) Rudolph of Stratford, Dann of Cherry Hill, Leigh (Michael) Zelenski of Cherry Hill and Carolyn of New York, NY. His 4-legged child and companion, Louie Lou, will miss Dad and eating half of his eggs in the morning. Pop Pop was very proud of his grandsons, Tyler (Meryl and Rudy), Brennan and Liam (Leigh and Michael). Edmund is survived by his two sisters, Linda of Allentown, PA, and Emily of Salisbury, MD. Uncle Eddie will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. His rich family history and frequent recall of the stories were a source of fun and comfort for him. Ed was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His military travels took him to Seattle, Washington then South Korea, Hawaii and Japan. He saved his military pay of $2,500 to establish his fuel oil business, Dobbs Oil. Ed worked diligently from his home every day to serve his many faithful customers for 62 years. His customers were his family. Ed’s contemporaries knew him to be an honest, hardworking and modest presence in the fuel oil business. Ed will forever be remembered as a candid, unassuming yet disciplined follower of his family’s Quaker roots. He lived his life the same way every day. Never cheat, lie, steal, inflate the truth or envy others for what they have and you have not. Give what you can without expectation of individual reward. Work together for the greater good. Be kind to others especially children and animals Ed loved walking in the woods, fishing, hunting and working in the garden. His strawberries, tomatoes and sweet potatoes were legendary. He also enjoyed growing amaryllis, daffodils and iris. “Tiller of the Soil” in his high school yearbook was a fortuitous name that has endured. Most notably while gardening, his patience and diligence were his hallmarks. Please join family and friends as we celebrate the life of this unique man. Friends will be received from 9 to 10:45 AM, on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Kain-Murphy Funeral Home, 15 West End Avenue, Haddonfield, NJ 08003. A memorial service will follow at 11:00. Interment will be at Locustwood Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ. As a thoughtful alternative to flowers, the family would appreciate any donations in Ed’s memory be made to either the Animal Adoption Center, 501 Berlin Road, Lindenwold, NJ 08021 or to VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, 18 E.
