Description	:	Wink served in the United States Navy. He was trained in Detroit. During World War II, he ran engines on an LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) in the Pacific. LCIs were seagoing amphibious assault ships of the Second World War used to land large numbers of infantry directly onto the beaches. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Wink worked for 3 years at Trump's Grocery Store in Marshalltown and for 6 years with the United States Postal Service. In 1960, the family moved to the Hartland Church area where they raised six children, all graduates of West Marshall High School, plus many ponies, horses, and Dalmatian dogs. At that time, Wink took up farming part-time and drove trucks. In 1986 he retired from FS Services in Des Moines and from his trucking business. From 1977 until 1986, Wink and Dottie lived in Melbourne, Iowa. In 1986, they moved to Marshalltown and wintered in Harlingen, Texas, until 2004. In March of 2005, they moved to The Embers in Marshalltown. One of Wink's favorite pastimes was working on his computer, exploring new software involving photo and music programs. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family, and playing cards. He and Dottie enjoyed exploring the United States in their motor home. Wink was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He died peacefully at home, at The Embers, under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Visitation and Prayer Service, March 27 at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home, Marshalltown.
