BAXTER, FORMER RESIDENT OF CITY, DIES IN INDIANA Word was received here Saturday of the death in Plymouth, Ind., of Mrs. O. H. P. Baxter, for many years one of the best known women of pueblo and Colorado, who came to Pueblo in 1861, and was closely associated with the rise of the city through the later 19th and early 20th centuries. She was 81 years of age and a charter member of the Arkansas Valley chapter, D. A. R. , and Colorado Pioneers association. Mrs. Baxter left Pueblo shortly after the death of her husband, O. H. P. Baxter, on April 15, 1910. Mr. Baxter was one of the business leaders of the section, having been a prominent rancher, milling operator, real estate dealer and banker. He was one of those instrumental in the building of the Grand Opera house and aided in the major civic projects of his day. The Baxters were married at the home of the bride’s father, John W. Henry. Mrs. Baxter, formerly Edna Alice Henry, and her older sister, Margaret Henry, were brides at a double wedding, Miss Margaret marrying John A. Thatcher. The wedding was performed at the Henry ranchhouse [sic] on the Chico river by Rev. George Murray on April 17, 1866. Mrs. Baxter is survived by two daughters, Mrs. O. W. Bruner, of Chicago, and Mrs. E. A. Starkloff, of Plymouth, Ind., at whose home she died Saturday morning. Three granddaughters also survive: Mrs. Edna Baxter Bruner, of Chicago; Mrs. Virginia Starkloff Thoma, of Elmhurst, Ill., and Mrs. Perry Baxter Starkloff, of Plymouth, Ind.; and one great-granddaughter, Shirley May Thoma, of Elmhurst, Ill. She was the mother of Jennie Baxter, Henry Baxter and O. H. P. Baxter, Jr., now dead. The body will be shipped to Pueblo, where funeral services and burial will be held. The funeral will probably take place from the home of Raymond Thatcher and Mrs. Lillian Thatcher, 419 West Fourteenth street. Definite announcements will be made later.
