She passed away Mar. 14, 2001, at the Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 100 years, two months and 20 days. Read More	CHRISTIANCY, EDNA ALVENA—Edna Alvena Wolter Christiancy was born Dec. 22, 1900 to Fred and Alvena Henrietta Kauth Wolter at Bruning in Thayer county. She passed away Mar. 14, 2001, at the Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 100 years, two months and 20 days. As a young girl, Edna resided in Bruning with her parents, brother, Ralph and sister, Edith and Frieda. In 1907, Fred moved his family and blacksmith business to Ohiowa. It was there that Edna attended public school and grew to adulthood. When Edna was about nine years old, her mother passed away. This left her with the responsibility of caring for two younger sisters and many household duties. In 1911, her father was married to Ann Thee. Frederick J. and Catherine were born to this union and completed the family. Edna met Clair Christiancy at a church social. After Clair returned from serving in WWI, they were married at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lincoln on Feb. 4, 1920. They spent most of their married life on the farm homesteaded in Chelsea township by Clair’s parents. They were blessed with five children, Ardith, Evelyn, Rodger, Clair Jr. and Robert. The family survived the depression, drought and lots of hard work. In 1953, Clair and Edna retired from the farm and moved to their new home in Geneva. Clair passed away in 1962. Edna continued to reside in her home until two years ago when she entered Heritage. Edna’s family was the most important thing in her life. She was proud of all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as evidenced by the careful record she made in her “book” with each new addition to the family. Her hands were always busy. When she was a young lady, she taught herself to tat. Over the years she also enjoyed ceramics, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. Even in her final days, she was crocheting pot holders for her friends and family. She was also a god cook and liked to share the things she prepared. She wouldn’t let you leave without sending some fresh baked bread, a jar of pickles or a bag of homemade noodles home with you. Violets, houseplants and garden flowers thrived in her care, as did her grandchildren. She was always ready for a game of Bingo or Yahtzee or to make a batch of popcorn. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Clair; daughter, Ardith Schmid; sons, Rodger and Clair Jr.; sons-in-law, Ernest Volf and Harold Schmid; parents, Fred and Alvena Wolter; stepmother, Anna; brother, Ralph; sisters, Edith Seelye, Frieda Dunker and Catherin Allpress; and a brother and sister in infancy. She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Volf; son Robert and daughter-in-law, Kay Christiancy, daughters-in-law, Shirley and Marilyn Christiancy; brother, Frederick J. and sister-in-law, Dorothy Wolter; brother-in-law, Henry Allpress; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held March 17, 2001, at the United Methodist Church of which she had been a member for 85 years. Officiating were Rev. Brian Kottas and niece, Rev. Kim Dunker. Sue Kleinschmidt accompanied Andrea Honeycutt, a great-granddaughter who sang “Amazing Grace” and “The Rose.” Pallbearers were grandsons, Larry Volf, Steve, Jim and Clair Christiancy, and grandsons-in-law, Mike Honeycutt, Jim Vallier, Bob Kohler, Larry Heath, Dan Vavra and Mike Hoffman. Burial was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal, March 21st, 2001 page 7.
