Description	:	Edna Bernice Oakeson Cook, daughter of Martin and Emma Oakeson, was born on August 12, 1912, in Howard County, Nebraska. She died November 18, 1988, at the Beatrice Community Hospital at the age of 76. The Oakeson family lived in Cushing, NE, where Edna graduated from high school. She was married to Lloyd Cook on June 22, 1935. Lloyd and Edna had one son, Larry, who currently lives in Beatrice, NE. Edna lived in the Chester community for 50 years. Read More	Edna Bernice Oakeson Cook, daughter of Martin and Emma Oakeson, was born on August 12, 1912, in Howard County, Nebraska. She died November 18, 1988, at the Beatrice Community Hospital at the age of 76. The Oakeson family lived in Cushing, NE, where Edna graduated from high school. She was married to Lloyd Cook on June 22, 1935. Lloyd and Edna had one son, Larry, who currently lives in Beatrice, NE. Edna lived in the Chester community for 50 years. During this time, "rooming" facilities were available in the home to many truckers, teachers, relatives and friends. She was the head cook in the Chester school system for over 20 years, retiring in 1977. She especially enjoyed her association with the students, the faculty and all of the school activities. Edna was an active member of the Chester United Methodist Church, serving as the financial secretary for many years. She moved to Parkview Village in Beatrice in May of 1988 because of failing health. Edna is survived by her son, Larry and his wife, Shari, Beatrice; two grandchildren, Amy Cook of Scotia, NE, and Michael Cook of Lincoln; two brothers, Paul Oakeson and his wife, Miriam, Grand Island, NE, and Howard Oakeson and his wife, Frieda, St. Paul, NE; three sisters, Hildur Petersen, Grand Island, Verna Wurman and her husband, Jacob of Washougal, WA, and Dorla Kremlacek and her husband, Edward of Deer Park, WA, and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd, in 1960, and an infant grandson, Todd. Edna was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and friends. Peace be with her. Services were held Monday, November 18, 1988, at the United Methodist Church in Chester at 2 p.m. The Reverend Truman Bachenberg officiated. Mrs. Dolan Frye was organist and Kenneth Hoge, soloist. Casket bearers were Don Minnig, Doyall Hartley, Paul Oakeson, Jr., Dennis Quick, Reuben Schleifer and Dan Coffey. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Hartley, Pat Boyer, Ray Roland and Myron Carlson. Interment was made in the Chester Cemetery.
