Read More	Edna was the daughter of James Buckland and Elizabeth Jane Trenary. She married Joseph Baker on April 2, 1876 at Algona, Iowa. They were the parents of Laura and Wallace. June 5, 1924 - Carroll Times - Mrs. J.W. Baker, a resident of this city for many years, died at her home Thursday night at 10:30 o'clock after suffering a stroke of paralysis during the afternoon, when attending the closing exercises of her daughter's school. Mrs. Baker had been stricken with paralysis some weeks earlier, but was almost enjoying normal health when she suffered another stroke. While she had not been feeling as well as usual Thursday she was determined to attend the school exercises and arrangements were made to take her to her daughter's school. After she was stricken she never regained consciousness. Mrs. Baker, before her marriage was Edna Buckland, and was born in Plattsville, Wis., June 28, 1858. At the age of 13 years she moved to Algona, Ia., with her parents. She grew to young womanhood there and April 2, 1876, was married to Joseph W. Baker. The earlier years of their married life were spent in Algona before moving to Carroll in the summer of 1886, they also lived for a short time in Manning. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Methodist church, having affiliated herself with this faith when a resident of Manning. Mrs. Baker was the fourth child of a family of eleven children. Of this family seven are still living. Mr. Baker died in this city July 22, 1921. Mrs. Baker is survived by one daughter, Miss Laura; a son Wallace, and a grandson, Willard, all of Carroll. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters Mrs. William Bowers, Sioux City; Mrs. James Hardmar, Danbury; Mrs J.A. Castle, Newcastel, Colo.; James Buckland, Kansas; John Buckland, Saskatchewan, Canada; Thomas Buckland, Elk Point, S.D.; and Leonard Buckland of Mapleton. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. Ellas Handy officiating. A quartette composed of Mrs. R.S. Hyatt, Miss Helen Shoemaker, C.M. Bayliss and L.L. Shoemaker, with Helen Saul accompanist, sang some beautiful and appropriate selections.
