He spent the early part of his life in Virginia and Ohio. From there he moved to Illinois where he lived a short time before moving to Algona. He is the oldest of nine children, all having preceded him in death but one sister. He was married at Algona April 2, 1876, to Miss Edna J. Buckland. They moved to Carroll in the fall of 1886 and have lived here ever since. Mr. Baker was a carpenter by trade and there have been many buildings in this city and vicinity erected by him. He still followed his trade although not as strenuously as in past years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Laura; one son, Wallace, and one grandson, Willard, all of Carroll; one sister, Mrs. Fred Daws, of Hoquiam, Wash.
