ELMER PETTY Long Illness Fatal To Local Resident Friday Morning Mrs. Elmer Petty departed this life Friday morning, September 8, 1967, at Akron Hospital, following an illness of many months. She was 56 years, 4 months and 20 days of age. Edna Madeline Jans was born in Nobles County, Magnolia, Minn., April 19, 1911, Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jans. When she was about a year of age the family moved to a farm about ten miles west of Akron in South Dakota. There they lived for about 6 years When she was seven, they moved into the area southeast of Westfield, where she began her formal schooling. On October 10, 1935, she was united in marriage with Elmer Petty, of Westfield, in Sioux City. During the past 32 years they have lived in the communities of Westfield, Akron and Le Mars. During her last illness, which began some eight months ago, she was a patient sufferer. Among those who survive to mourn her departure are: her husband, Elmer; her four daughters, Mary Welch, of Elk Point; Phyllis Welch, of Westfield; Agnes Miller of Sioux City, and Lyna Weberg, of Akron: her son, Ernest of Elk Point; her six sisters, Margaret Onnen, of Yreka, Calif.; Minnie Rosnebaum and Clara Rosenbaum, both of Elk Point; Freda Onnen, of Richland; Ethel Onnen and Marie Starkmann, both of Akron; her brother, Carl Jans of Akron; 15 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Her sisters, Rose McLane, Lean Rosenbaum and Goldie Jans all preceded her in death. Graveside services were held Saturday afternoon at Riverside cemetery, Rev. D.J. Roy officiating.
