McFarland OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, January 8, 1970 ANDERSON - Edna Marie, eldest child of Clarence and Arvilla McFarland Bartlett, was born Sept. 12, 1898 at Humeston, Iowa. She died at the Chariton Manor in Chariton following a lengthy illness on Jan. 2, 1970, at the age of 71 years. On Jan. 24, 1925, she was married to Fred Anderson of rural Humeston and to this union three children were born. All of her married life was spent on a farm northwest of Humeston. At an early age she united with the Methodist church at High Point. Mrs. Anderson was graduated from the Garden Grove schools in 1916, and attended Normal Training School there. She began her teaching career at a rural school south of Garden Grove, later teaching at Richman, LeRoy, Derby and Humeston. She retired this past summer after a teaching career that extended over 50 years. In 1950, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Drake University. She was awarded a life membership in ISEA on April 27, 1967. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, and her eldest son, Harry, who died in November, 1966. Besides her husband Fred, she leaves a daughter, Bette Bolling and husband, Art, of Silver City, N.M., and a son, Donald and wife, Mary, of Chariton. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Anderson, of Coulter, a sister, Catherine Armstrong, of Garden Grove, a brother, Kenneth Bartlett, of Davis City, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were held January 5, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Funeral Home in Humeston, conducted by Rev. John Patterson. Pallbearers were Floyd Warren, John Rydell, Allen Miller, Lloyd DeVore, Willis Rickert and Jerry D'Attilio. Flower ladies were Mrs. Mae Rickert and Mrs. Floyd Warren. Interment was in the Humeston Cemetery.
