Her family lived in Missouri, then in Colorado for one year prior to moving to Emerson in 1925. She graduated from Emerson High School in 1926, went on to Red Oak Junior College, Tarkio College, and the University of Omaha, receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree from the U. of Omaha after 18 years of College, Summer Schools, Night Courses, and T.V. Classroom Credits, often carrying these credit hours while also carrying a full teaching load. She and Robert Grayson were married at New Market, Iowa on May 3, 1931. To this union was born a daughter, Kathryn Ann. Edna taught school for 29 years at places including the Climax, Oaks, Tabor and McClain Country schools, and community schools at Emerson, Hastings, and Silver City. Her daughter, Kathryn,. was her pupil in every grade until high school with the exception of grades 3, 4 and 5. Teaching brought opportunities for additional duties. She served as chaperone for the Emerson Girls Basketball Team for several years, including a trip to Des Moines for the 1958 state championship 2nd place. Bob and Edna saw a lot of the continent in their years together, traveling in every state in the Continental U.S. except Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, also seeing sights in most Canadian Provinces. Edna was Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 121 of Emerson, Past Worthy High PreistesBiof the White Shrine of Jerusalem, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the American Association of University Women, the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association, an Honorary member of the Iowa State Education Association, and a faithful member of the Emerson United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary of the church school for 43 years, and churchtreasurer for the past 20. She is survived by her husband, Robert Grayson; one daughter, Mrs. Allan (Kathryn Ann) Warrior ; and two brothers Orel Gillen of Emerson and Elton Gillen of Mena, Arkansas, three grandchildren, Allan, Dawn, and Kristen Warrior of Klamath Falls, Oregon She died Sept. 8 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital following an extended illness. Services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church with Rev. David Nolte and Rev. David Olson officiating. Interment was made in the Emerson Cemetery.
