Description	:	Stratford Courier April 19, 1984 Mrs. Edna Barquist passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Wednesday, April 4, 1984 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 11 days, after an illness of four months. She was born in Stratford, Iowa on July 24, 1900 and was the daughter of Peter and Betsy Johnson Leksell, both of whom were born in Sweden and emigrated to this country in the late 1800s. Edna Elvina Leksell was baptized and confirmed at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Stratford and later, when it was renamed the Evangelical Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school for twenty-five years. She was born in Stratford, Iowa on July 24, 1900 and was the daughter of Peter and Betsy Johnson Leksell, both of whom were born in Sweden and emigrated to this country in the late 1800s. Edna Elvina Leksell was baptized and confirmed at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Stratford and later, when it was renamed the Evangelical Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school for twenty-five years. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Stratford, was a member of the Stratford School Board for several years, and owned and operated the Jack Spratt Food Store in Stratford for thirty years. She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. Also, her husband, Ralph Barquist and her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Sleichter of Denver, Colorado. Left to mourn her passing are one sister, Mrs. Vera Hall of Stratford, three grandchildren, Mrs. Dennis Robertson of Orlando, Florida, Mr. Kim Sleichter of Bothell, Washington, and Mr. Kip Sleichter of Denver, Colorado, plus six great-grandchildren. Also two nieces, Mrs. R.D. Nelson of Boulder, Colo. and Mrs. E.M. Nelson of Scottsdale, Arizona. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford on Sunday, April 8, and burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.
