April 1 at 2:00 at the First Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Wm. H. Perdew. Internment will be made at Oakland Cemetery. the grand Army will have charge. Mr. Broshar moved to Centerville several years ago from Walnut Twp. where he had resided for many years and had held the assessorship and other township offices and from which he had been elected as a member of the Board of Supervisors. As Assessor he served three years - 1881, 1882, 1883 and after being appointed to fill the vacancy on the board of supervisors he was re-elected for a three year term ending 1888. After moving to Centerville he served as Court House janitor Some Family tradition says Clerk of Court, but J. Ray Kennedy, son-in-law has stated he was a janitor at the courthouse until failing health caused him to conserve his labors. he was always interested in public affairs and competent in his official positions. Mr. Broshar was widely known and the announcement of his death broght many expressions of sorrow as deceased held the goodwill of people generally, many of whom he numbered as his personal friends. Especially will he be missed in the Grand Army circles where he was popular among his comrades. He had been declining in health for several years and had been an invalid. The turn for the worse came Monday morning since which time he had rapidly grown weaker until the time of his death which was due to paralysis or general nervous breakdown. Deceased was the son of Zachariah and Mary (Linebaugh) Broshar, was born near Napolean, Ripley, Ind. Sept. 26, 1838. He came to Appanoose Co. in 1855 with his parents who settled on a farm in Chariton Twp. Both of the old folks have long since passed away and there survive of the children only Mary Elizabeth, wife of Lewis Main, of Chariton Twp. In JUlt 1859 the subject of this sketch was married to Miss Minerva Jane Funkhouser. Of this union ten children were born. Those living are: Alfretta Hiner of Moravia, Ella Best of ElReno, Okla., Alice Weston of Sunshine, Anna Smith of Main Station, Winnie Kennedy of Numa, William and John who have resided at home. The deceased are James, Lewis, and Gertrude. After the death of his wife, Mr. Broshar was married to Mrs. Mattie Smith August 12, 1900 and the two sons of the latter, Fred and Edd, made their home with the family. Mr. Broshar's war record when he enlisted Aug. 15, 1861 with Company M third Iowa Cavalry. Herved four years, having re-inlisted in the spring of 1864 for the remaining of the Civil War. He was appointed Duty Sergeant and served as such until musted out at Atlanta, Georgia Aug. 9, 1865. He participated in the battles of Pea Ridge, Hartsville, Little Rock, Grintown.
