Housel, son of Lafayette and Phebe Hobbs Housel, was born Sept. 30, 1887 in Henry county and passed away in the Memorial hospital at Mt. Pleasant, June 13, 1953. His final illness was of short duration. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of his birth and attended the rural school. Later he attended an academy and Iowa Wesleyan College. On October 2, 1912, he and Mima Montgomery were united in marriage and lived in the West Highland neighborhood, where he was engaged in farming until 1942. Mrs. Housel passed away December 19, 1937. They were the parents of three children, one son died in infancy. Surviving are Warren, near Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Vera Moyle of Arvada, Colorado. There also remain three grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Stephen Williams of New London also remains and two nephews besides many other relatives and a host of friends, for he was a friend to all. His parents and sister Grace Housel, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Mystic Lodge, I.O.O.F. for many years, also a member of the Midwest Threshers and Old Settlers Association. Mr. Housel united with the West Highland Methodist church near his home and after moving to Mt. Pleasant, transferred to the First Methodist church.
