KUNCE Edward C. KUNCE, son of S. J. and Nancy KUNCE (sic. Samuel KUNCE and Nancy STROUDER KUNCE), was born in Taylor county, Iowa, March 7, 1879, and met his death in Fairfield, Iowa, January 10, 1921, being forty-two years, ten months and three days old. He was berefit of his mother at the age of two years. He was then raised by his great uncle, Levi Spittler (sp.??), until her grew to manhood. He spent most of his life in Van Buren and Jefferson counties except one year in Nebraska. In the year 1899, August 3, he was married to Anna FRAKES of Van Buren county. To this union eight children were born: Mrs. Lavann EDWARDS of Des Moines, Pearl, who died in infancy, Irwin (sic. Irven W. Kunce), Merlin, Vernon, Mildred, Virgil and Dale (sic. Robert Dale) at home with his bereaved wife. Hesides his aged father and sister, Mrs. Jennie DROZ of Ottumwa ( Jennie Mabel Kunce Droz), one grandson, two half-brothers, Otto and Cleveland KNUNCE, of Winner, South Dakota, he leaves a host of friends to mourn his untimeley departure. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of Salina. He was a kind neighbor and a devoted husband and father. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. But God's will be done. ------------- Note: Although Edward's obituary stated that there were eight children born, it overlooked that Anna was pregnant with their ninth child, a son, who was born on July 25, 1921. That son is still living as of January 2013 and lives in Iowa. The Iowa and U.S. Census reports from 1925 through 1940 lists the given name with numerous variations, which led this son to change his first name to a more conventional spelling. Because he is still living his name is not posted to this memorial at this time. Notification that this son existed was brought to the attention of this contributor via a SAC on January 7, 2013, the person making the contact being a grandchild of this son of Edward and Anna Kunce.
