Ed was born Oct. 5, 1940, to Ernest and Catherine (Smith) Anderson. Ed attended country school at Tallin School District 135 and later graduated from Arnold High in 1958. After graduation, Ed served in the United States Army 25th Infantry Division from October 1958 to October 1964. After his discharge from the military, he moved back to North Platte, where he sold insurance and later worked at North Platte Pack. Edward was united in marriage to Jean (Virginia) Rowley on June 22, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. They moved to the family farm in February 1965. To this union four children were born, Edward Jr., Deanna, Kristen and Lana. Ed was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2839. Ed was particularly fond of cattle and family. Over the years, Ed had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, roping, cards, computers, bowling and playing pool. Several times Ed participated in the Cornhusker State Games in Lincoln in the pocket billiards division. Ed was the first American Simmental Association member in Nebraska. He started artificial insemination in the late 1960s and performed custom AI service for others, which he continued until his passing. Ed loved teaching and particularly mentoring young people. He formed the Two and One Livestock 4-H Club and was a 4-H leader for more than 25 years. Ed shared his knowledge and love of cattle and left an impact on many family cattle operations. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Capt. Edward Anderson Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Deanna Poe, of Lincoln, Kristen (Steve) Berger, of Callaway, and Lana (Jim) Phelps, of Callaway; sister, Mary (Maurice) Andre, of Arnold; two brothers-in-law, Anthony (Arlene) Geiger, of Lincoln, and Ronald Rowley, of Sutherland; grandchildren, Tiana Poe, of Lincoln, Colt Anderson Williames, of Crestview, Florida, Vayle Berger, Eddie Berger, Catherine Phelps and Elizabeth Phelps, of Callaway; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Jose, of Lincoln; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold with Fathers Thomas Gudipalli and Don O’Brien officiating. Burial will be at Sand Valley Cemetery west of Callaway with honor guard by American Legion No. 130 and VFW Post No. 6157. Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
