Edward E. Baak (1913 - 1998)-------------------------Edward E. Baak was born September 7, 1913, the son of Richard and Ida Rickert Baak. He died Wednesday, October 28, 1998 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 85.------------------------Known as Ed to his family and friends, he was born on the family farm, two miles west of Ricketts. He was baptized in Christ, September 28, 1913, and later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith, April 10, 1927, and also received his education at Immanuel Lutheran School. --------------------------Edward helped his father farm and began his career repairing farm machinery at the age of thirteen. In 1934, he was united in marriage to Elsie Hesse, of Mapleton, and they were blessed with the birth of four children. In 1956, Elsie died after suffering a long illness.--------------------------------In 1941, Edward was drafted by the war board to repair farm machinery. He was authorized priority to purchase tools and parts through the war board. He continued farming the family farm and also did custom threshing with his father and Uncle Ernst.----------------------------In 1957, Ed was united in marriage to Phyllis Kunze Gloede. She and her five children joined Ed on the family farm, and they were blessed with the birth of two children. -------------------------Also, in 1957, Ed started buying used tractors, which he overhauled and repainted. He sold over 2,200 used tractors. He truly enjoyed working in his machine shop where he machined parts that could not be purchased. It was often said that if he couldn't find the part, he would make it. In 1969, Ed moved his implement dealership and repair shop into Charter Oak. After retiring in 1987, he continued occupying his time selling his farm machinery and continued using his machine shop skill designing and making many wood crafts.------------------------On October 25, 1993 Edward suffered a stroke and had resided at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. ----------------------------He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Elsie; children Richard and Beverly and one grandson, Scott Gloede. ------------------------------Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, nine children, Maureen Petersen and husband, Larry, Ron Gloede and wife, Judy, all of Charter Oak; Kathleen Schau and husband, Irv of Cedar Rapids; Roger Gloede and wife, Tracey of North Sioux City, South Dakota; Drene Briggle and husband, Paul of Ricketts; Allen Gloede of Omaha; Randy Gloede of Phoenix, Arizona; Pam Tripp and husband, Tony of Charter Oak; Tami Baak and friend, Kevin of North Sioux City, South Dakota; nineteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Hannemann and husband, Raymond of Oregon City, Oregon and one niece, Anita Hannemann of Canby, Oregon; a host of other relatives and friends.----------------------------Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 30, 1998 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak. Rachel Greene provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Just As I Am, Without One Plea", "I'm But a Stranger Here", and "Go My Children With Thy Blessing." Honorary pall bearers were Tracy Gloede-Hugee, Kimberly Meyer, Vicki Robbins, Robin Petersen, Markus Tripp, Andrea Sandy, Desiree Tripp, Lisa Gloede, Gina Gloede, Justin Tripp and Selena Gloede. Pallbearers were Jason Schneider, Dean Petersen, Darin Gloede, Eric Schneider, Greg Gloede, Eric Schneider, Greg Gloede, Chad Gloede, Neal Gloede and Chris Schau. The family invited everyone at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
