It is not known whether he carried insurance. Highland Recorder October 17, 1947 Funeral services for Edward E. Curry who died October 10, 1947, at the University hospital, Charlottesville were held Sunday at 2 o’clock from the Clover Creek Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Rose, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Curry had been in ill health for some time and was a patient in the hospital for two weeks. He was born May 9, 1866, and spent his entire life in Highland County. He was 81 years and 5 months old, and was a son of the late Benjamin A. & Mary Varner Curry. His wife Christina Michael Curry preceded him in death May, 1923, also a son Louie who died at he age of 12. He is survived by three sons, John A. Curry of McDowell, Va., William J. Curry of Newport News, Va., Howard P. Curry of Churchville, besides four grandsons: William E. Curry of Lone Fountain, Va., Lowell Curry of Waynesboro, Va., Thomas Curry of Newport News, Walter Curry of McDowell. He also leaves three great grandchildren. Highland Recorder May 1, 1936 McDowell News: Ed Curry, a farmer on the Bull Pasture mountain, who was kicked by a horse last Saturday and had several ribs broken was reported today to be worse and it was feared he might have pneumonia. Highland Recorder August 2, 1918 FIRST CASUALTY The unofficial report circulated ten days ago that young Howard Curry of Highland had been killed in France, has been explained by a telegram from the Adjutant General to the father, received here Tuesday, the sad report being somewhat modified, but sad and disquieting. Mr. Edward Curry, the father, was informed that his son was "severely wounded in action, June 8," No particulars as to the character or location of the wound were given. This is the first casualty reported among the boys who have gone to war, although one of them, young Carpenter, died of disease while in the training camp. This cruel war, its attendant anxieties and sacrifices, has created a bond of sympathy- which assures Mr. Curry that he is not forgotten in his affliction. November 29, 1918 The probability that Uncle Sam can lose trace of his family is shown by a telegram sent to E. E. Curry last week, stating that his son, Howard Curry had been missing since July. When Mr. Shumate called the Curry home to deliver the message, he learned that several letters had lately been received by the family from the "missing" boy, and that he was in a hospital in Atlanta, Ga. arranging to come home soon. Young Curry's name appeared in the casualty list early in the season, and since then various rumors as to the extent of his wounds have been circulated.
