Ed was born April 15, 1913. in Worden, MT., to Fred and Mary Foos Batt. His father homesteaded, farming and raising sugar beets. There were 12 children in the family; one brother and two sisters died in infancy. Ed attended Worden Garnsey and Anita schools. When Ed left home, he worked on various farms. In 1937, he started working on the Dover Ranch, where he met his wife Martha, who was a cook there. Three years later, he farmed and managed Lewis Schroder's Farm for five years. He and his family moved west of Billings to farm for themselves. They lived there 23 years. He was blessed with five children, two boys and three girls; now has 10 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. Ed was a hard worker and loved to farm. He also liked to fish, hunt, and dance. He was active in the community and church. He retired in 1981. In the summers he would work on hay-balers. He was known as "One of the Best Baler Men" in several counties. As the years passed on, he took care of the yard and raised a wonderful garden, which he shared with the family and friends. His quick creative wit served him throughout his life. He was a devoted, protective and proud husband and father, He is survived by his wife, Martha, sons, Daniels Batt of Phoenix, AZ., Marshal Batt of Worden, MT., and daughters, Marilyn Dunn of Seattle, WA., Linda Batt of Billings, MT., Bonnie Eriksen of Seattle, WA.; granddaughters, Shannon Waldrep of Phoenix, AZ., Dusty Nelson, Kelly Nelson both of Seattle, WA., Katherine Tasha and Mikala of Worden; grandsons Marshal and Landon of Worden, Brand Nelson of Lavina, MT., and Paul Dunn of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are his brothers, Fred, Conrad, of Billings, MT., Daniel of Oregon; and sisters, Elizabeth Yerger of Absarokee, MT., Ruth Heth of Billings, MT., and Miriam Britt of Canyon Ferry, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jake; and sister, Mary. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Bethlehem Congregational Church, Worden, MT. Visitation was at Smith Downtown Chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday Jan. 3, at Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden, MT. Burial will follow at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine, MT.
