He was the beloved husband of Sheila R. (Ryan) Hatch, to whom he had been married 50 years. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, March 16, 1939, he was the son of the late Edward G. "Snapper" Hatch, age 73, of Merrimac, formerly of Haverhill,Mass. died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, July 27, 2012 at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. He was the beloved husband of Sheila R. (Ryan) Hatch, to whom he had been married 50 years. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, March 16, 1939, he was the son of the late Edward G. Hatch, Jr. and Ruth (Brewer) Hatch. Edward was a 1956 graduate of Amesbury High High School; Amesbury, Mass. Mr. Hatch, who was known as Snapper, had worked as a foreman in the construction business until his retirement. He leaves behind his family whom he loved and cared for his entire life, his best friend, companion and wife, Sheila, of Merrimac; his four sons, David E. Hatch and fiance Cathy Russell of Lowell; Paul W. Hatch and wife Patricia of Medford; Peter J. Hatch of Merrimac; and Christopher R. Hatch and his wife Jerilyn of the Bradford section of Haverhill; his two granddaughters, who were his pride and joy, Carli A. and Ruby R. Hatch, along with many dear friends and extended family, all of whom are truly saddened by his loss. A memorial service for family and friends was held on Wednesday,August 1, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C.Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury. Followed by a Mercy Meal at The Roma Restaurant in the Bradford section of Haverhill. There were no visiting hours. On September 27th there was a private memorial service at the cemetery for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Lawrence Eagle Tribune; North Andover,Mass *Edward was a 1956 graduate of Amesbury High school. He attended The University of New Hampshire. My father was a friend of Bill W. At the time of his passing he had been clean and sober for 17 years. He was diagnosed with Mantle Non Hodgkin's Disease in late July 2012. This is a very aggressive (and rare) and hard to treat form of cancer with a poor prognosis. On July 27th he received his first round of chemotherapy. Later that day while taking a nap at home he died of sudden cardiac arrest. Edward was devoted to my mother and the rest of the family. During his final year he was dedicated in caring for my mother who was very sick with COPD. She was in and out of hospitals and rehabs the first 5 months of that year. Despite how sick he was my father was always there for her. They shared over 50 wonderful years together. A year earlier their children had an anniversary party for them. Five weeks after he died,my mother chose to pass on through Hospice using morphine to end her suffering. Her disease had progressed and she missed my father immensely. She didn't want to live without him anymore. My parents had a wonderful life together. They're no longer suffering and are together again. Growing up there was never a dull moment for my father with my brothers and I. Then came his granddaughters Carli and Ruby. They were the apple in his eyes. Our family had never had girls in it. My dad loved to spoiled them! My father actually died at home. By law he he had to be pronounced by a doctor at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport,Mass. My father aged a lot during his last year due to his sickness and having seen my mother sick. Looking back its obvious that he realized he was very sick. His main concern was my mother. Shortly after he passed on all of the wrinkles were out of his face. He looked very peaceful and serene.
