Description	:	Edward Francis Sawyer, 86, of Denmark, IA, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the West Point Care Center. He was born on January 29, 1922 in Augusta, IA to Francis M. & Laura Orton Sawyer. He was married to Dorothy Reed Miller (deceased) and then married Beth M. Frary Steflik on January 12, 1962 in Fort Madison, IA. Beth preceded him in death on October 11, 2006. Survivors include two brothers, Tom Sawyer, Seattle; and Frank Sawyer, Ft. Madison; and three sisters, Clara Horst, Middletown, Kathryn Jackson, Burlington; and Edith Junk, Colorado. Step children include Wayne Reed, Burlington; Carol Reed Reid, Pontusuc, Ill (deceased); Barbara Miller, Betty Miller, Gary Steflik, Ft. Madison, IA; Diane Steflik Gasaway, Nauvoo, Ill; and Patricia Steflik, Cedar Rapids, IA; numerous step grandchildren & step great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He farmed most of his life on his grandfather Lyman Orton's farm near Augusta. He also worked at the CB&Q Railroad Shops, Iowa State Penitentiary, Iowa Ordinance Plant and Brunken Construction. As a young man, he also drove a school bus for the Sawyer School. In World War II, he served in the occupation of Japan. He was a former member of Wever Christian Church and a current member of Denmark UCC Church, of which his ancestors were founders. In 1999 he retired to Twin Oaks Manor in Denmark where he grew a garden and continued a lifetime of helping his friends and neighbors. Edward loved his church, his family and his friends and he will be missed by all who knew him. His body has been cremated by King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory and no visitation has been planned. The graveside funeral for Mr. Sawyer will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Denmark Cemetery, in Denmark, IA with Rev. Jason Unzicker officiating.
